PromptShifu ("the Extension") is dedicated to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data, adhering strictly to the principle of data minimization and local storage.

1. Core Privacy Principle: Zero Data Collection

We do not collect, store, transmit, or sell your personal data.

PromptShifu operates as a standalone, local-first utility. We do not have servers to store your prompts, usage history, or browsing behavior. All data generated by the Extension resides exclusively on your local device.

2. Data Storage and Retention

• Local Storage: All user-generated content (including saved prompts, folders, tags, and settings) is stored locally within your Chrome browser using the chrome.storage.local API.
• No Cloud Sync: We do not sync your data to any external cloud servers managed by the developer.
• Data Life Cycle: Your data remains on your device indefinitely until you manually delete it or uninstall the Extension. Uninstalling the Extension will permanently remove all locally stored data.

3. Permissions Usage & Justification

To function correctly, PromptShifu requires specific permissions. We use these permissions strictly for the purposes described below:

• activeTab (Core Functionality):
  • Purpose: To identify the active text input field on the current webpage and insert the prompt selected by the user.
  • Privacy Scope: This permission is granted only when you explicitly trigger the Extension (via the toolbar icon or keyboard shortcut).
• scripting:
  • Purpose: To technically execute the text insertion command.
  • Privacy Scope: Scripts are injected dynamically only upon your request to paste text. No persistent scripts are used to track user activity.
• sidePanel:
  • Purpose: To display the prompt library interface alongside your web browsing workflow without obstructing page content.
• storage:
  • Purpose: To save your custom prompts and preferences locally on your device.
• contextMenus:
  • Purpose: To provide a "Save to PromptShifu" shortcut in the right-click menu.
  • Privacy Scope: We only process the specific text string you highlight and choose to save. We do not read other page content.
• Host Permissions (Supported AI Platforms & APIs):
  • Purpose: To enable the "Side Panel Copilot" feature on specific AI websites (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Tongyi) and to communicate with authorized API endpoints.
  • Privacy Scope: We strictly define a list of supported domains in our manifest. We do NOT request <all_urls> (access to all websites). The extension checks the current URL solely to determine if it matches a supported AI tool for prompt injection or API communication.
• Web Ecosystem Integration (externally_connectable):
  • Purpose: To enable seamless communication between the official PromptShifu website (promptshifu.com) and the extension.
  • Usage: This allows features like "One-Click Install" and "Magic Reverse Save". When you use our official web tools, the website can send the generated prompt data securely to your extension for local storage.
  • Security: This communication channel is strictly limited to our official domain only. No other websites can send data to your extension.

4. Third-Party Services

• AI Providers: If you use the Extension to interact with third-party AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, OpenAI API), your interactions are subject to the privacy policies of those respective platforms. PromptShifu acts solely as a bridge to facilitate text entry or API calls.
• No Analytics: We do not use third-party analytics tools (such as Google Analytics or Mixpanel) to track extension usage.

5. Data Security

Because all data is stored locally on your device, the security of your data relies on the security of your local computer and browser. We recommend keeping your browser updated to the latest version to ensure chrome.storage is secure.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or service offerings. If we make any material changes, we will notify you by updating the date at the top of this policy and, where feasible, providing a notice within the Extension.
